About Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga:
Ashtanga Yoga is a practice dating back around 2000 years.  It is rooted in the knowledge of the ancient sages.
In this workshop we will be exploring the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice as it was taught by the Late Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois.  Using the Vinyasa method, in which each posture is  linked with the breath, this practice unfolds as a moving meditation, leading us towards self-realization.

In this workshop we will be exploring the postures of the 1st Series of Ashtanga Yoga, also known as the Primary Series or Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy).

What we will cover:

  • History & Philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga
  • Postures of the Primary Series
  • Breathing exercises (Pranayama) and chanting (Mantra Yoga)

About the Instructor:
Debbie Leong, E-RYT, has practiced Ashtanga Vinyasa daily for over 8 years.  She is a student of Donna Feiner and Manju Jois, the son of the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.  She also attends workshops with master teachers like David Swenson, David Williams and Danny Paradise as often as possible.  Her classes are filled with humor as she gently guides each student towards realizing their full potential.

Sadly, the 7:30 Vinyasa Level II class at PCYH has been canceled. I will however be teaching a new class at 5:45-7:15am class instead. This class is an Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series Intensive and will run from May 5th-June 30th. I hope you can join us, it will be a lot of fun.

I know what you're thinking. Ughhhh, 5:45am, THAT'S CRAZY! Trust me, it's not that bad. Here's why. This 8 week intensive will lead us right into the summer solstice, June 21st, which is the longest day of the year. On that day the sun will rise at 5:24am and set at 8:30pm. Pretty cool actually.

I'm not normally a morning person, but at this time of year, as the days get longer, it's much easier. It will be great to actually practice the sun salutations as the sun is rising. It's a fantastic way to start your day.

Namaste

Photos from the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund event have just been posted.

I would like to thank everyone who participated, and especially Deborah Metzger, owner of PCYH, for matching all contributions and allowing us to use the studio.  And last but not least, to The Red Hawk Fly for their fantastic music.  We were able to raise just over $1,000 for Doctors Without Borders.
